Mr. and Mrs. George Grant, of Park Road, Wooloowin, have been advised that their only son, George, of the Army Medical Corps Details, died of pneumonic influenza on February 25 (1919), at Burden Military Hospital, Weymouth, England. Young Grant was a very promising medical student, and is the fifth Emmanuel College boy to give his life on behalf of his country. He received his early education at Charters Towers and at Townsville Grammar School. Gaining a University scholarship, he came to Brisbane in 1914, and became a resident student in Emmanuel College. After two years at the Queensland University, he proceeded to Melbourne University to pursue his medical studies, but the call of the Empire proved irresistible, and, when within sight of his degree, he enlisted in October, 1917, and left for England on August 6.
